Two dead after another construction crane collapses in Thailand

Two people were killed after a construction crane collapsed onto a highway in Thailand, a day after a crane accident in another part of the country left 32 people dead.

The crane was being used to build an expressway in Samut Sakhon, a Bangkok suburb. Footage shows the moment the crane crashed onto the highway, crushing some cars and leaving a cloud of dust and debris on its trail.

Wednesday's crane collapse in the north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasimahad seen a crane fall on top of a moving train, leaving more than 60 people injured.

Construction works in both incidents are being handled by the same company, Italian-Thai Development, one of Thailand's largest builders.

Authorities say 64 people are injured-seven of them seriously. They include passengers as old as one year old and as old as 85. All passengers have been removed from the scene.

The works are being carried out by Thailand largest construction/ civils company Italian- Thai Development.

A Tata Steel worker has died after an incident at the company's plant in Corby.


The firm confirmed he was fatally injured at the Northamptonshire site on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said it was investigating and "cooperating fully" with the police and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and added: "Our heartfelt sympathies go out to our colleague's friends and family."

Northamptonshire Police said it was called to the factory in Weldon Road at about 13:00 GMT to "reports of a sudden death".

A man in his 30's has died at a timber door manufacturing firm in Penrith

An investigation into a man's death at a timber door firm is under way

Cumbria Police said it was called to JELD-WEN on Mardale Road in the Gilwilly Industrial Estate, Penrith, at 16:00 GMT on Friday to a report of a "workplace incident".

A man in his 30s was declared dead at the scene, the force said.

The Health and Safety Executive confirmed it was aware and liaising with police.

JELD-WEN is a timber door manufacturer which supplies to public and private sector markets.
